On February 29th, 2024, the Commission of EU REACH voted to pass a proposal to restrict perfluorocaproic acid (PFHxA), its salts and related substances in Appendix XVII of REACH ((EC) No.1907/2006).
Material information
"Perfluorohexanoic acid (PFHxA) and its salts and PFHxA-related substances" refers to:
★ Compounds containing linear or branched C5F11- perfluoropentyl groups linked to carbon atoms;
★ Containing straight chain or branched chain C6F13- perfluorohexyl
Excluding the following substances:
★C6F14
★C6F13-C(=O)OH, C6F13-C(=O)O-X′ or C6F13-CF2-X′(where X′ = any group, including salt);
★ A substance containing a perfluoroalkyl group C6F13- an oxygen atom directly connected to a non-terminal carbon atom.
Limit requirements
In homogeneous materials:
★ The sum of PFHxA and its salts is less than ＜0.025mg/kg (25ppb).
★ The sum of related substances of PFHXA is less than 1 mg/kg (1000 ppb).
